Sustainability
Dear all design and environment lovers,
Sadly, our world is in danger. Climate change is now a fact of life and cannot be ignored.
Below is how we have committed ourselves to being as sustainable as possible. As a small business, we are constantly adapting and looking to improve. There is still more to be done, but we are proud of what we have achieved so far.
Designed to Last.
At Christian Watson our work is created to last a lifetime. We design future antiques - work that is created to be handed down for generations. We do this by designing effectively and by making it to the highest quality possible. To do this we design with longevity in mind and by handcrafting everything to exacting detail and standards.
We love it when our clients come back to us – but we truly are a one stop-shop – we have all the services you need, and we have work that you never have to buy again.
Repair or Replace.
We hate throw-away culture, which is why our work is built to stand the test of time. Our ambition is to keep furniture in the home. We never want either a fault of ours or a mistake of our customers to send our work to the dump.
For each piece we create, we have care instructions to make sure that the work stays as perfect as it was when it was made – but mistakes do happen, that’s why we’re here to help.
Depending on the severity of the problem, we can either come to site, or the piece can be sent to us for repair. If we can’t repair it, then we can remake certain parts and the piece can continue in use for many years to come.
(Dirty hands! Wine stain! Keys in the back pocket?! No problem!)
Made in the UK.
Everything that we make is designed in London and handmade in the UK – and because all our work is handmade to order, we never have any excess or surplus stock that goes to waste.
We are proud members of Made In Britain and love the fact we are made in the UK. Our carbon footprint is reduced by not manufacturing abroad, and by sourcing materials from local producers and suppliers.
Sustainable Materials.
Wherever we can we source the highest quality materials from sustainable and responsible companies. Sustainable Cork from Portugal, 100% British Wool and Eco-Glue are just a few examples of where we are making a conscious effort to cut down on non-sustainable materials.
All of the metal we use is fully recyclable, so if (and that’s a big if) there was an issue with our metalwork, or we couldn’t repair a frame – then we can recycle that into something else! Easy!
We are always on the lookout for new and inspiring sustainable materials – so let us know if you have found something cool you think we should know about!
Packaging.
All of our local deliveries (London) are delivered in handmade recycled cardboard boxes. Once delivered, we take these with us for next time! The rest of our work is delivered in recycled bubble wrap which we urge our clients to recycle or re-use where possible.
